New Record “DEAD AMERICAN RADIO” out 8/8/06
The exuberant yet repentant punk anthem that launches
Left Alone’s 2006
sophomore Hellcat offering is the kind of no bullshit, honest proclamation
that fans of last year’s highly-praised Lonely Starts and Broken Hearts
have
come to expect. That lead-off number, dubbed “The Sinner,” is
the sort of
joyous chant along that has earned the devotion of punk purists throughout
the globe. But as Dead American Radio unfolds, it reveals itself to be a far
more adventurous, diverse and rewarding song cycle than its predecessor.
Simply put, Left Alone has concocted a stone cold classic
album that
artfully takes aim at corporate radio, suck ass emo bands and everything in
between while incorporating elements of ska, cowpunk, pop contagiousness and
old school punk. Yet according to Left Alone’s guitarist, songwriter
and
mouthpiece Elvis Cortez, that variety – which counts the efforts of
saxophonist Noe, and the inclusion of Hammond organ and pedal steel –
wasn’t
necessarily a goal for the new disc.
“We were just picking up on different kinds of
music and grooving on
different elements,” Cortez says. “My only goal was to do a record
I’d be
100% happy with. Lonely Stars was recorded in like four days or some shit.
This time we had a lot of time. Plus we had been on tour forever and had a
lot of songs. Everything just worked out. Much like our band, it’s just
a
bunch of weird shit that just all kind of goes together.”
From a pensive heartbreaker like “Waiting For
You” to the charged punk
firecracker “Drunk Again”, the flow of the record is somehow seamless
thanks
to the musical aptitude of Cortez, Noe and their rhythmic commando Ramrod
(drums). With “La Pregunta,” recent tourmate Patricia Day (of
HorrorPops
fame) joins Elvis on the quirky ska-inspired, Spanish-sung duet, while
Rancid’s own Tim Armstrong joins forces with the band for the upbeat,
rock &
roll road tale “City To City”.
“I brought some songs over for Tim to check out
and he really liked “City To
City,” so I asked him if he wanted to sing on it,” Elvis says
of his
hit-worthy collaboration with Hellcat’s founder. “And he said,
‘Yeah.’ So he
wrote the verse he sings and he helped me arrange the song. He’s so
good at
that kind of stuff. The guy is amazing in so many ways. It was a trip
working with him.”
If “City To City” is an instant classic
that deserves to be an airwave
favorite, Cortez recognizes that the likelihood that it and the other
winners like on Dead American Radio – like the reflective, energetic
“Every
Night” and the terrestrial (a.k.a. testicle) radio critiquing title
track –
will be heard by the masses is slim. “People think that bands get popular
out of being good, and it’s just not true,” Elvis proclaims. “I’ve
always
known it to be pretty much a money thing. It’s like the rich gets richer
and
radio is the worst example of that. For a band it sucks because there’s
so
much good stuff that should be on the radio but it never gets the chance
because maybe their label can’t afford it or just chooses not to buy
into
it. I’ve always felt that if a song is good enough, it shouldn’t
matter what
label it’s on, but that’s not the way it works.”
If corporate radio still sucks, Left Alone’s
frustrations with the medium
haven’t kept the quartet from excelling on Dead American Radio. “It’s
funny
because somehow these songs wound up being some of the catchiest I’ve
ever
written,” Cortez marvels. “And some of the songs ended up sounding
like they
could be at home on the radio. But I didn’t sit down with that in mind.
We
just jam and then put the ideas together, it’s never a plotted out thing
with our music.”
It’s amazing then, to consider that this big,
bombastic sounding record was
produced on a modest budget before mastering. A testament to Cortez’s
skills
as a producer, he says the band “just took our time and did what we
always
wanted to do. We did the drums on reel to reel analogue and dumped them into
Pro Tools. I borrowed a Gretsch and a bunch of Les Pauls and different amps
and cabinets. And Ramrod got a new, high end drum set and all of this
equipment and we focused on the sound as much as the songs and it really
worked out well.”
Of taking Left Alone’s music to a new level,
Elvis acknowledges, “We could
do the whole hardcore thing, and I started with it, but I’m more about
melody and textures. That’s everything for me. We feel really good about
this record. The whole band is excited. I can finally say that from start
to
finish, I feel so complete with this thing. It feels like we hit it out of
the park. When I listen to the record we made, I’m like, ‘Fuck
yeah!’”
If defying convention seems to be protocol for Left
Alone, Cortez confirms
this notion when he speaks of a recent House of Blues gig in L.A. with
Hellcat labelmates Tiger Army. “We both had pedal steel guys!”
the frontman
laughs. “It’s like totally out of context for punkers with Mohawks.
The
soundman was like, ‘You have a saxophonist, a pedal steel player and
an
organist and you’re a punk band with Mohawks? What are you guys doing?’”
But despite the group’s willingness to try new
things, the men of Left Alone
are still ardent punk purists a disdain for a certain popular rock subgenre.
Hence the delightful, revivalist kick in the ass known as “I Hate Emo.”
“On the 2004 Warped Tour it started for us,”
Elvis confesses. “It was like
attack of the clones. Emo bands… they look the same, they play the same,
they talk the same. So the song started as a punk rock song called “Fuck
Emo.” And the chorus was like, ‘Yeah, I said it. I said it.’
And then we did
the Warped Tour Barbecue and all these emo bands would look at me like I was
an asshole. And maybe I was.”
“I guess with me, I don’t give a fuck what
music looks like or how it’s
packaged,” Elvis says, in spite of his band’s own eye-catching
Boombox-centric album cover. “As long as its good and genuine, it will
shine
through and people will catch on. If you play your shit with balls, and
truly have some balls, it will shine through.”
Summing it all up, Elvis Cortez decrees, “We’re
no Hot Topic band.” That’s
for sure.

Yea it kind of sounds weird but we are starting to work on a DVD that will
cover all 10 of the band with the tours Warped 2004,2005,2006 all the U.S
tours, the Europe 2005, the Canadian tour ,the Hawaii trip and Everything
in
between. We will have interviews with old Left Alone members as we as the
adventures of James the roadie and Danny the Merch guy. If you have any

Things have been Crazy with the LA boys and they havnt had time to stop! Here

Still on the Road:
Sup everyone happy cinco de mayo. I know its been really long since the
last update but we have been real busy recording, touring and getting in
and out of jail(don't ask ha ha), shooting a video and just doing band stuff.
Left Alone 10 Year!
Well today 5/5/06 marks LEFT ALONE'S 10 year anniversary and we are at
the best place to be in on this day we are on tour. Denver actually man
when I started the band 10 years ago I had a mission and goals and boy
after 10 years of hard work its coming true. Band members have come
and gone but the band still keeps going and that's the way it is. Here
is a bit of stuff that has been going on and what's in the works for this
year.

Its out may 23 and it has an unreleased song from our new record. The

Happy Valentines day
How are you guys doing? Well we are finally back from Europe and boy are we
glad to be home! Well kinda we all miss our beds but a week into being home
we always want to be back out on the road. Thanx to everyone who has been
writing us wishing us well on our long lonely travels, wait lonely no not
at
all its been fun day in and day out. the pictures posted are from London and
the air port going home. We want to thank the HORRORPOPS for helping us out
so much because if it was not for them Europe would not of happened. Also
tom-check our tour manager/driver he put up with a lot and always had our
back..

RECORDING THE NEW RECORD “DEAD AMERICAN
RADIO”
We have been busy recording our new record. We’ve been in the studio
since
mid January and its just about done. 28 songs in total but the album will
only have about 13 or so I think. Man this time around its been so different
we actually have more time to work on songs and get things right not like
before where we would record as fast as possible because we had no money,
not that we are rich these days its just that mother fuckers the hard work
is paying off! .I guess the record is due to come out JUNE 20th a year after
lonely starts was released. I must say this record is very different due to
many reasons like the traveling has taken a toll on our lives and we see
things a bit different and actually playing night after night made us
tighter and it kinda shows. But wait don’t get all crazy jump on my
space
and start spreading the news its still us sounds like us and is us its just
a little more polished ( well that’s what it sounds like to me at least).
I
produced it my self and we have a few special guest who appear on it that
you will hear about soon.
ANOTHER TOUR
Yup we were home just in time to record a new record and make more merch and
we are going to be off APRIL 5th with the HORRORPOPS and the BRIEFS in the
U.S. and CANADA so look out for a show in your town.

Euro Update Week 2!!!
Well everything has been getting better and better the shows are bigger
and the crowds seem to know our songs off our lonely starts record. We
have been selling good and have sold out on all the vinyl records we
had. we made special Europe tour shirts and they will be avail at our
U.S. shows until we sell out of them. Looks like we only have 2 shows
planed in Jan and Feb 06 cause we are going to be busy recording our new record
so check the LA and OC house of blues calendar.
We want to thank Ludwig and his wife for letting us stay at his house in Belgium.
They
are some of the best people we have met ever.We celebrated James our band
muse
birthday in the CZECH REPUBLIC and boy o boy
was he loaded
19 shots of that poison jagermeister and he hit the floor.
We have hundreds of pictures that as soon as we go home we will update on
our
site. SWITZERLAND was good to the people were into us. The pictures are
from us backstage at our Belgium show and also the van we roll in. I'm
writing this as we board a ferry boat on the way to the UK. Well I'm

Euro Update Week 1!!!
So here it is dam its cold up in this bitch. No I mean really cold so
fucking cold that I wear long john pants then my pants, long sleeve
shirt,regular shirt hoodie and a leather jacket everyday. In Sweden I
saw snow fall for the first, and after the show our new friend rana (a
great tattoo artist and his girl took us to a disco where rancid music
played on the dance floor and that was sweet. I must say ramrod and me
always thought new jersey girls where the hottest in the world but fuck
that sweeded girls are "how you say" SUPER FUCKING HOT!! man and
they
are super nice.
Thanx Rana for letting us stay at your pad. Well the
shows have been great we had our first pit in Poland. Today is turkey
day and the only reason I found out was cause the home boy j dog dropped a
text
sorry but I don't know the date and what day of the week it is and that feels
good.
Its good to have someone drive and manage and the only
thing I do is sing, write songs and get loaded every night. Every show
we have met people who have gone to the show just to see us and that's
cool. In Norway it was so expensive that the Jack Daniels shots were $15
yes $15 so I only had bout 4 and that didn't even get my ears warm.
We slept in the red light district after that show in the middle of hookers
and drug dealers but it was cool. So happy turkey day to all we spent it
at burger king tryn to chill like in the states. I bought everyone star
wars watches so now left alone and the horrorpops roll in style. The
pictures are of us in Germany with our tour manager tomcheck but we call
him price check, sound check, spell check, check into cash and chin
check. Thanx to poodel in Berlin for letting us crash at his pad after
the show. Ok I'm out now I go on my daily mission to find Jack Daniels.

News From the Road!
Well its been 10 years and 1000 tears and look at the mess I'm in....how
are you guys fucking doing? We are having a blast touring with the
horrorpops and the disasters. The shows have been insane packed mondays
thursdays sundays fuck every day has been great. We have been recording
a lot of footage for a little video or dvd we want to work on as soon as
we go home.
I'm also working on demoa for the new record in a little studio we built
in the van cause when we return home we want to record a new album. I've
been asked by mr. Rodger Miret to play guitar on 2 Agnostic Front songs
from time to time and that is such an honor. So many friends we have
made and our old friends from the past warped tours have made it out to
hang with us at every show we have played. We just got out of florida
and are now in georgia as I write this thing. We were in texas and saw
people packing their cars with all their shit and it was sad.. We drove
thru louisiana and saw the houses under water.
On dec 7th our record will be released in japan witch
is crazy so now we
have to go and hang with godzilla..........their is also talk of having
one of our songs on a video game.

We are finally fucking home!!!!!!!
After over 2 months of being on tour and living in a van we are home. So much
has happened this year for us and its still not even over yet that we can't
believe most of it. We are only home for 3 weeks
just long enough to silk screens some shirts and hit the road again. We had
a great time on Warped Tour,All the friends we made and old friends we got
to hang out with for the whole summer and big thank you to Kevin Lyman and
the 2005 staff. Also the bands…Transplants, the unseen ,the matches,
motion city soundtrack , mxpx , bedoin soundclash, streets dogs,I could go
on and on but ill just cut it here but you get the picture. Thank you guys

News From The Road
Guys what it be like? I have a little time here in whack ass Canada to
let you know what's been going on, on warped tour I had to pay 200 bux to
get into canada again cause of my record pinches cabrones. First of all
thank you thank you thank you for buying our record and coming out to
the cd release show. We have had strong sales so far and we thank you
for that. The cd release show was fucking nuts even though I was so
drunk I really didn't remember shit till I saw the videos. Hope you guys
liked the $3 ticket price that was us trying to hook everyone up for the
mad love you guys have been giving us . In Canada we had a day off and
went to this cafe where they sell weed and you smoke it in their and it
was called the new Amsterdam cafe so if you ever hit Canada find that
spot cause it rocks I smoked my self retarded and had to take a cab back
to the hotel. We had to get the BBQ trailer fixed and sent our roadies
to Handle that while we hit Canada. We actually are on tour buses for a
few days thanx to epitaph curt and its fucking nuts tour buses are cool
but we like and miss our van. The HorrorPops have finally joined the
tour and man are they great. We can't wait till sept when we hit the
road with them and hit the U.S. again so make sure you come out. We are
booking a few shows in late august and early Sept around LA so look out
for fliers and come hang out with us.Well I guess that's all the time I
have we play in about an hour and I need to grab my guitars. A big high
five to the DIY stage cause every day they worked hard and made shit

What's up guys well the warped tour has been fucking
amazing. We are
playing the bigger stages this time around and it seems that everyone
has heard of us and the record has been selling like a motherfucker.
Please remember that if you are going to see us on warped tour please
get their early cause last year we played the main stage at 12:30 and
most of the people that went to see us were still in line. We never know
what stage or what time we play till about 10am that day so get their
early and if you wanna hang out with us at the BBQ after every show you
are more than welcome.

We will be home for about 3 weeks then we will hit the road with the
HORRORPOPS and RODGER MERIT and the DISASTERS for another full U.S. Tour
from Sept to Nov.

out June 21st on hellcat records so please go a grab your copy even if
you have the smelvis version. The hellcat version has liner notes by
elvis on what the songs are about and new art work.
The vinyl version has a different cover 3 extra songs

stage on Warped Tour!!!!
That's right Elvis has managed to help out his friends with the DIY
stage at this years warped tour. From June 30th San Diego to July 10th
in Oregon the stage will have 10 bands a day all hand picked by Elvis,
so remember to swing by and check these bands out. A compilation will be
out with the bands on June 30th that will be sold dirt cheap at warped.
Remember to get to warped tour early so you won't miss
any bands....

News From The Road
What's up how are you guys? I'm taking a few minutes out of our 25 hour
drive to Ohio from Utah to write what's been going down. Well we left
for Utah to play a show with our good friends skint on Friday after
getting shot at in my alley, and having some drunks crash into the van
and except for that shit its been great.
We got to hang out in Ogden for a few days then left to Ohio.
we will stop at the rock and roll hall of fame Thursday then go to Columbus
to
begin the warped tour on Friday. There is tons of stuff going on like me and
ramrod in the new
transplants video and our new video for the song would you stay now, also
we are starting to get a lot of press and we are in the new Alternative
Press(July issue) and in Metal Edge Magazine (my chemical romance on the cover).
We are very lucky to have all these things and are very wet
about it. Also remember that the vinyl version of Lonely starts has 300
on pink actually 210 cause I got 90 to sell on warped tour. Don't forget
that our cd release show is JULY 5th at the knitting factory(that's our
day off from warped tour) for only $3 that's right with bands viernes
13, black rose phantoms ,matamoska plus a special guest from warped tour
see you there.And in other great news we are doing a tour from Sept 16th
to Nov 5th with the Horror pops and Rodger Miret and the

What’s up everyone well we are about to leave
for a Warped Tour in about 2
weeks and wanted to do something a little cool for our fans. We are very
lucky to have such hardcore fans that have gotten tattoos of our band heart
logo and other band artwork. We are very appreciative of this and that’s
why
we have come up with this little idea. We are going to have a Tattoo party
for our fans with a free BBQ. What? That’s right our good friend and

Tattoo artist Jeffrey Page at BIG DADDY”S TATTOO has agreed to tattoo
all
day from (11am to 7pm) and will only charge $20 per Left Alone tattoo.

Whats up? Well I know its been a while since the last time I had time to

The Tour
Our tour was great from start to finish. We made new friends and fans and
had a great time doing it. A quick thank you to the PHENOMENAUTS, FINAL
SUMMATION. SKINT, and all the great people that let us sleep in their house,
drive way or parking lot. We have all of MAY off to get ready for the WARPED
TOUR and make merch.
Left Alone Video
We have been recording footage for a video for one of our songs off “Lonely
Starts”. We recorded live footage at the legendary Gilman street and
are
gonna finish it up in a bar in san pedro. If you guys wanna be in it just
keep your eyes open we are gonna send an email to let people know when and
where its gonna be.

News From the Road
What's up I have a little time to write some
lines about how our tour is
going. First off its been great we missed the road and finally we hit it
again We have been playing really fun shows. Last night we played at the
lipo lounge in San Fran but it looked more like china. Mastema a band we
played with and you can hear them on the new backyard city rockers 3 had
sushi and beer waiting for us back stage thanx guys..... We also hit
Arizona for a few nights and it was cool. We slept in a kmart parking
lot and ramrod got pulled over again but other than that cant wait to
come back to Arizona in may. James the new roadie is working out well
boy he works hard. Now we have tonight at petaluma and Saturday at
Gilman St. Guess we are going to film some footage for a video their. Ok
I'm out we have sound check in a few ill talk to you guys later.....
